UMBRA, A Limited Edition Watercolour Set for Autumn

Autumn does not arrive on a date. It arrives on an afternoon.

You go outside and the air has changed. The light comes in low and sideways now, the way it never does in July, and it lands on everything at the wrong angle. Leaves that were green in August have gone the colour of old brick. The hedge is full of rust. A beech tree catches the last hour of sun and turns the colour of tarnished gold, and for about ten minutes it is the most beautiful thing on the street.

Then it rains, and the whole world goes grey-blue until morning.

UMBRA is that afternoon in six colours. It is our autumn limited edition for 2026. Six handmade shimmer full pans in a tin, poured here in Fellbach.

The six colours

Oxblood
Wet leaves on the ground after a night of rain. A dark, dusty burgundy, more earth than red.

Rost
Rust. The colour of the hedge in the second week of October, and the warmest thing in the set.

Umbra
The late sun through a beech tree. A soft golden ochre, the lightest of the six, and the one the set is named after.

Bronze
The same rust, but in shadow. Deep brown with something red still moving underneath.

Antikgold
Old gold gone matte. Not the bright kind. The kind you find on a picture frame nobody has cleaned in forty years.

Schatten
German for shadow. A cool grey-blue, the rain coming in. The only cold colour in the set.

Five warm, one cold

That is the whole idea.

Autumn is not a warm season. It is a warm season with something cold arriving behind it, and a palette without Schatten would have been dishonest. Put it next to the other five and they get warmer. That is what shadow does.

The shimmer does the rest. These colours behave the way autumn light does, they change depending on where you hold the page.

Limited edition

Fifty sets. One batch, poured by hand. When they are gone, UMBRA does not come back.
